The European Commission, the anti-trust enforcement arm of the European Commission, has accused Microsoft of eliminating Internet browser competition in Europe by bundling its Internet Explorer browser with its Microsoft Windows operating system. The preliminary finding by the European Commission is detailed in a letter released by Microsoft Jan. 16. Microsoft is planning to respond to the findings and could request a formal hearing before the commission.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took center stage at the opening of the International CES Jan. 7 to announce that Microsoft would release a beta version of its new Windows 7 operating system this week.
